Hikes to waterfalls, swims in the sea and cuddles in a treehouse – a perfect week.

We flew from Johannesburg to George Airport, collected our rental car and enjoyed the beautiful scenic drive towards Knysna. The drive through one of our favourite parts of the country was truly beautiful!
We arrived at Starry Forest Cottage at Lazy Leopard Forest Retreat in Rheenendal, a cozy log cabin amongst the tops of the trees.
No advertisement could’ve prepared us for the beautiful outdoor bath, the glass-encircled bathroom and the endless valley of trees before us – it was all far more spectacular than we ever expected. The weather played games all week and temperatures ranged from 8 degrees Celsius to 42 degrees Celsius, on the hottest day. We almost froze the first night – neither of us brought our warmest winter clothes; only our shorts, T-shirts and swimming costumes. As the days went, the weather certainly warmed up and when we read 40 degrees on the car’s dashboard, we were already wishing for cooler weather.
Most mornings started slowly and were spent marvelling at the misty sunrise with coffee and rusks in hand.
We had many wonderful adventures including a hike to the waterfalls in the surrounding areas, beautiful forest walks surrounded by some of the tallest and oldest trees known to that part of the country, a dip in the sea at Buffels Bay, dolphin-watching at Brenton-on-Sea and the obligatory visit to Featherbed Nature Reserve.
This part of the country is definitely a favourite of ours due to its diversity, affordability and sheer beauty!
We cannot wait to return one day.
